Gas-Shielded Hardfacing Wire for Heavy Impact and High Abrasion

Eagle 557FGS is an all-position chromium carbide hardfacing wire designed for components exposed to heavy impact combined with high abrasive wear. It produces a tough, wear-resistant martensitic deposit with a hardness of approximately 56–58 HRC, making it an excellent choice for demanding applications where both impact resistance and abrasion protection are required.

Ideal for agriculture, mining, aggregate, construction and heavy equipment repair, Eagle 557FGS is well suited for hardfacing screw conveyors, augers, buckets, bucket teeth, ripper teeth, tamper feet and pump impellers.

Built for Impact. Built for Wear.

Clean the weld area thoroughly and remove fatigued or damaged metal before hardfacing. A grinder may be used, or Eagle 188 airless gouging electrodes can be used where additional material removal is required.

Use the lowest effective amperage while maintaining approximately 1/2"–3/4" stick-out. Apply either stringer beads or weave beads depending on the application.

For best results, limit the deposit to a maximum of two layers.

Eagle 557FGS is an all-position chromium carbide hardfacing wire engineered for demanding applications where both impact and abrasion are major concerns.

Its martensitic weld deposit provides approximately 56–58 HRC hardness along with corrosion resistance, giving it a strong balance of toughness and wear protection.

Why Eagle 557FGS?

Heavy-impact capability — designed to withstand repeated impact while maintaining strong wear resistance.

High abrasion resistance — chromium carbide alloy helps protect components exposed to aggressive abrasive wear.

Gas-shielded performance — provides consistent weld quality and controlled deposition in shop and production environments.

Built for heavy equipment — excellent for buckets, augers, ripper teeth, tamper feet and other high-wear components.

557FGS or 560FGS?

Choose 557FGS when the application combines heavy impact with high abrasion.

Choose 560FGS when the application is dominated by severe abrasion with only slight impact.

In simple terms:
557FGS = more impact resistance + high abrasion
560FGS = more abrasion focused + less impact
