Metal-Cored Tool Steel Wire for Metal-to-Metal Wear and Edge Retention

Eagle 564MC is a premium gas-shielded metal-cored high-speed tool steel wire designed for applications where metal-to-metal wear, edge retention and resistance to high compression loading are critical.

It produces a hard, wear-resistant deposit of approximately 44–50 HRC, making it an excellent choice for rebuilding and hardfacing components such as hammers, dies, shears and other high-pressure wear surfaces.

Built for Compression. Built to Hold an Edge.

Eagle 564 MC Specification sheet

Eagle 564MC is recommended for:

Hammers
Dies
Shears
Cutting edges
Tooling surfaces
High-compression wear areas
Metal-to-metal wear applications
Industrial repair and rebuild work

Designed for components where edge retention and metal-to-metal wear resistance matter more than severe abrasive wear.

DC Reverse [+] Polarity

Clean the weld area thoroughly and remove mill scale and contaminants before welding.

Preheat the component to a minimum of approximately 500°F / 260°C.

Use the lowest effective amperage while maintaining approximately 3/8"–5/8" stick-out, plus or minus 1/4".

Use a stringer bead technique to help reduce surface checking.

Eagle 564MC is a gas-shielded metal-cored high-speed tool steel wire engineered for excellent metal-to-metal wear resistance and good edge retention.

Its approximately 44–50 HRC deposit makes it a strong choice for components subjected to repeated contact, compression and sliding wear.

Why Eagle 564MC?

Excellent metal-to-metal wear resistance — designed for components that experience repeated contact and sliding wear.

Good edge retention — ideal for dies, shears and tooling where maintaining a working edge matters.

High-compression performance — well suited for surfaces subjected to heavy compressive loading.

Metal-cored productivity — provides efficient deposition for rebuild and repair work where tool-steel properties are required.

564MC or Chromium-Carbide Hardfacing?

Choose 564MC when the main problem is metal-to-metal wear, compression or edge retention.

Choose 560FGS, 561GL or 563GL when the main problem is abrasive wear from material such as dirt, rock, aggregate or other abrasive media.

In simple terms:

564MC = metal-to-metal wear + edge retention
560/561/563 = abrasive wear protection
