Machinable Build-Up Electrode for Rebuilding Worn Carbon Steel Components

Eagle 603 is an all-position build-up and underlay electrode designed for rebuilding worn components made from low, medium and high carbon steels. It produces a tough, machinable deposit with a hardness of approximately 28–32 HRC, making it an excellent choice for restoring worn areas before final hardfacing.

Ideal for maintenance, heavy equipment and industrial repair, Eagle 603 is commonly used for rebuilding hard bars, idlers, sprockets, rollers, rail ends, ditcher segments and ditcher rails.

Build It Back. Machine It. Hardface It.

Eagle 603 is recommended for:

Hard bars
Idlers
Sprockets
Rollers
Rail ends
Ditcher segments
Ditcher rails
Worn carbon steel components
Build-up beneath final hardfacing deposits

Suitable for build-up and underlay on low, medium and high carbon steels.

Clean the weld area thoroughly and remove fatigued or damaged metal before rebuilding. Use grinding where practical, or Eagle 188 airless gouging electrodes where additional material removal is required.

Use the lowest effective amperage while maintaining a medium arc length. Apply either stringer beads or weave beads depending on the application and required build-up.

Eagle 603 is an all-position, machinable build-up electrode designed to restore worn carbon steel components and provide a dependable underlay before hardfacing.

Its approximately 28–32 HRC deposit provides a strong balance of toughness, machinability and wear resistance. The deposit can also be forged and flame-cut, giving repair shops additional flexibility when rebuilding worn parts.

Why Eagle 603?

Machinable build-up deposit — restore worn components without creating an excessively hard surface.

Excellent underlay electrode — provides a solid foundation before applying harder final hardfacing alloys.

All-position capability — useful for field and shop repairs where components cannot always be positioned flat.

Versatile carbon-steel repair — suitable for low, medium and high carbon steels.

Eagle 603 or 530FGS?

Choose Eagle 603 when stick welding is more practical and you want a machinable build-up electrode for repair or underlay work.

Choose Eagle 530FGS when you want the productivity of a gas-shielded flux-core wire for larger build-up jobs.
In simple terms:

603 = stick build-up for portability and simplicity
530FGS = wire build-up for higher productivity
