High-Strength Low-Alloy Electrode for Tough Structural and AR Plate Welding

Eagle 818 is a premium low-hydrogen electrode designed for joining high-strength and low-alloy steels where strength, ductility and impact toughness are critical.

Classified as 8018-C3, Eagle 818 produces strong, dependable weld deposits with excellent impact properties, including at sub-zero temperatures. Its smooth, stable arc and low-spatter characteristics make it a strong choice for structural fabrication, heavy equipment repair and demanding industrial welding applications.

It is also well suited for welding AR plate and other higher-strength steels where good ductility and toughness are required.

High Strength. Low Hydrogen. Built for Tough Service.

Eagle 818 is recommended for:

High-strength structural steels
Low-alloy steels
AR plate
Heavy equipment repair
Mining and earthmoving equipment
Structural fabrication
Load-bearing components
Cold-weather and sub-zero service
High-strength steel joining

It is especially useful where strength, ductility and excellent impact properties are required.

Clean the weld area thoroughly and remove rust, scale, paint, grease and other contaminants. Where required, groove out cracks or defects before welding; Eagle 188 airless gouging electrodes are an excellent option for repair preparation.

For vertical welds, weld bottom-up using a stringer bead technique for maximum strength. Maintain a medium arc length while welding.

Eagle 818 is a high-strength 8018-C3 low-alloy electrode engineered for dependable weld quality and excellent impact toughness.

It produces a smooth deposit with a stable arc and very little spatter, while maintaining strong mechanical properties even in sub-zero service conditions.

Why Eagle 818?

High-strength performance — approximately 90,000–93,000 psi tensile strength for demanding structural and repair applications.

Excellent low-temperature toughness — designed to maintain strong impact performance in cold service.

Ideal for AR plate and low-alloy steel — a strong choice where strength and ductility are both important.

Smooth operator characteristics — stable arc, smooth deposit and very little spatter.

818 or EB7018?

Choose EB7018 for standard low-hydrogen structural welding on mild and carbon steels where 70 ksi-class strength is sufficient.

Choose Eagle 818 when the application involves higher-strength or low-alloy steels, AR plate, or service where improved impact toughness is important.

In simple terms:
EB7018 = standard low-hydrogen structural welding
818 = higher-strength low-alloy welding + better cold-service toughness
