ER316L TIG Rod for 316/316L Stainless and Corrosion-Resistant Applications

Eagle ER316L is a premium low-carbon stainless steel TIG filler rod designed for welding 316, 316L and similar molybdenum-bearing stainless steels.

Its combination of chromium, nickel and approximately 2–3% molybdenum provides improved resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion compared with standard 308L-type stainless fillers. This makes ER316L especially well suited for chemical processing, piping, marine, food-processing and other applications exposed to aggressive environments.

Eagle ER316L provides excellent mechanical properties, clean TIG performance and dependable corrosion resistance for demanding stainless fabrication and repair.

Low Carbon. Molybdenum Alloyed. Built for Corrosion Resistance.

Eagle ER316L TIG Rod is recommended for:

316 stainless steel
316L stainless steel
Stainless piping
Petrochemical equipment
Chemical-processing equipment
Food-processing equipment
Marine fabrication
Tanks and vessels
Industrial maintenance
Corrosion-resistant stainless repair
General stainless fabrication

Especially well suited where resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and aggressive service environments is important.

ER316L is ideal for pipework, petrochemical and other corrosion-resistant stainless applications.

Clean the weld area thoroughly before welding.

Remove oil, grease, dirt, coatings and surface contamination.
Use a dedicated stainless steel wire brush where mechanical cleaning is required to help prevent carbon-steel contamination.

Use 100% Argon shielding gas for typical TIG / GTAW applications.

Operate on DC Straight [–] / DCEN polarity.

Maintain a short arc and keep the filler rod within the shielding-gas envelope to minimize oxidation.

Adjust amperage according to base-metal thickness, joint design and rod diameter.

Eagle ER316L is a low-carbon, molybdenum-bearing stainless steel TIG filler rod designed for corrosion-resistant stainless applications.

Typical ER316L chemistry contains approximately 18.5–19% chromium, 12–12.5% nickel and 2.6–2.7% molybdenum. The molybdenum addition improves resistance to localized corrosion, particularly pitting and crevice corrosion.

Why Eagle ER316L TIG Rod?

Improved corrosion resistance — molybdenum helps improve resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.

Designed for 316/316L stainless — ideal for welding similar molybdenum-bearing stainless steels.

Low-carbon filler — helps reduce carbide precipitation and preserve corrosion resistance.

Excellent mechanical properties — published ER316L data shows minimum tensile strength around 510 MPa / 74,000 psi with elongation of at least 30%.

Ideal for demanding environments — particularly useful for piping, petrochemical, marine and process-industry fabrication.

ER316L, ER308L or ER309L TIG?

Choose ER316L for 316/316L stainless and applications requiring improved pitting and corrosion resistance.

Choose ER308L for 304/304L and similar stainless-to-stainless applications.

Choose ER309L when joining stainless steel to carbon steel or other dissimilar steels.

In simple terms:
ER316L = higher corrosion resistance
ER308L = standard stainless-to-stainless
ER309L = stainless-to-carbon steel / dissimilar metals
